Meditation can be a refuge, but it is not a practice in which real life is ever excluded. The strength of mindfulness is that it enables us to hold difficult thoughts and feelings in a different way—with awareness, balance, and love.
During my yoga teacher training, my teachers often said that an injury is the best teacher. It forces you to take a hard look at your practice, see what your crutches are, where you need to improve, and, most importantly, how to adapt.
I have a theory that I only go “out” for New Year’s Eve once every five years. Meaning, I was due for an event this year.
