    Eating and Walking through Lisbon

Oh, hi there! Happy 2020. I normally post a year-end recap on my blog, but 2019 just didn’t allow it. In December, I took some vacation time to unwind and show my in-laws around the US for their first trip here ever. It was a lot of fun, and also really relaxing. It also meant I did not open my computer pretty much the entire time that I was off.

    Crossfit in Barcelona

Sagrada Familia. Gaudí. The illustrious “ham cone.” Barcelona is beautiful. It’s streets are linked together like lattice-work and its art nouveau architecture is unique in the world. I’ve had the opportunity to visit twice now and on this second trip, I was introduced to its Crossfit community.

    Barcelona y Madrid

The past two weeks have been intense and exhausting and exciting and filled with way too much stuff in the best way. My colleague, Pam Kocke, and I set out for Spain to help promote our new Happiness Engineer (ES) position at Automattic. (As always, we’re hiring!) We started out in Barcelona where we spoke with the WooCommerce Barcelona meetup on our first night and learned that jet lag makes you fearless. The next day, we had a chance to chat with the folks from the Barcelona WordPress meetup to talk some more about customer support. (Can you tell we like customer support?!)

Last week, I visited Spain for the first time. I was fortunate enough to be selected as a volunteer for WordCamp Europe – which, as a side note, was one of the best WordCamps I’ve been to. It was so well-organized with a group of fantastic speakers and the overall atmosphere was just awesome. I wish I had some reason in my life to sit in a room like that all day and listen to everyone communicating in such a wide variety of languages, to the extent that most folks seemed to forget which language they should be speaking. Europe, you’re a very special place and I adore you.
